This crowned Museum Replica reproduces the head of a female terracotta figure from ancient Tomis, the Greek-founded and later Roman city on the western coast of the Black Sea, today Constanța in Romania. Although preserved only as a fragment, the object carries a strong visual identity. Its carefully arranged hair, earring, and especially its high architectural crown suggest that it represented not an ordinary woman, but a female divinity or personified power connected to protection, status, and civic meaning.
The most significant feature is the headdress, which most likely takes the form of a mural crown shaped after city walls and towers. In the Greek and Roman world, this attribute is especially associated with Tyche, the protectress of the city and the embodiment of fortune, security, and urban identity. Cybele remains another possible identification, since she too could wear a mural crown and held an important role in the religious life of the region. Because the surviving fragment includes only the head, the identification cannot be considered certain. The piece is therefore best understood as the image of a female divinity or civic personification, probably Tyche, though other related interpretations remain possible.
The original belongs broadly to the Late Hellenistic or Roman visual world, with a cautious working date in the 1st to 3rd century CE. Its refined, idealized features do not suggest an individualized portrait, but rather the formal language used for divine or symbolic female figures. As a replica, this object preserves that combination of femininity, rank, and protective authority which made such images meaningful in the ancient city.
The Crowned Figurine is available in several materials:
- White nylon — polished to create a smoother surface and the most economical option.
- Black nylon — treated before the Color Touch finish is applied, resulting in a uniform, high-quality surface with stable color consistency between production batches and improved resistance to scratching, rubbing, and outdoor exposure.
- Bronze — produced through a metal casting process based on a 3D-printed wax master model, giving the object an elegant metallic appearance.
- Gold plated brass — made through the same casting process and offers a more refined and decorative metallic finish.
- White rhodium plated brass — cast from a 3D-printed master model and finished with white rhodium plating, giving the object a bright and elegant metallic character.
As with the original fragment, this replica emphasizes the sculptural quality of the head and the symbolic importance of the crown. It is suitable as a study piece, display object, or collectible reproduction of an image tied to the religious and civic life of the ancient Black Sea world.
