This 3D-printed reproduction is based on an original Nabataean high-relief sculpture from Petra, Jordan, dating to the early 1st century CE. The original, carved from local red sandstone, depicts a mythical guardian combining the head and upper body of a woman, the wings of an eagle, and the body of a lion. It was discovered in 1967 near the Temenos Gate, a monumental entrance to Petra’s sacred precinct, and is currently preserved in the Petra Archaeological Museum.
The sphinx reflects the cultural syncretism of the Nabataean Kingdom, merging local Arab religious symbolism with Greco-Roman artistic influence. In Nabataean belief, such hybrid figures served as protectors of sacred spaces, embodying strength, fertility, and divine guardianship. The original sculpture is notable for its dynamic pose, detailed wing feathers, and finely modelled musculature.
This replica is produced using precision 3D printing and is available in the following materials:
-
White Nylon – Polished for a smooth surface; the most affordable option.
-
White Rhodium Plated Brass – Bright, silvery tone with a high-quality finish.
Each metal version is created using the lost-wax casting method, ensuring an accurate and durable reproduction.
Please note: For objects exceeding the maximum size limitations of a given production material, the replica is manufactured at a reduced scale relative to the original.
