This 3D-printed Museum Replica is based on the funerary stele of Polyxena, a Boeotian grave monument from the late 5th or early 4th century BCE, now preserved in the Altes Museum in Berlin. The original shows a single standing woman beneath a pediment, veiled and composed, holding a small female figurine while another attached object in her right hand has been lost. More than a grave marker, the monument is a controlled and deliberate image of memory, female identity, and transition in the Greek world.
The replica preserves the formal clarity of the original relief and its distinctly Classical restraint. Polyxena stands frontally, her drapery carefully ordered and her posture calm and self-contained. Rather than presenting grief through dramatic movement, the stele commemorates the deceased through dignity, balance, and ritual suggestion. The surviving inscription preserves her name, while the figurine she holds has led scholars to connect the image with female offering, maidenhood, and the passage into adult life. In this way, the monument stands at the intersection of funerary commemoration, female ritual symbolism, and Boeotian artistic tradition.
The Funerary Stele of Polyxena is available in several materials:
- White Nylon – polished for a smoother surface to the touch and offered as the most economical option.
- Black Nylon – treated after printing and finished with Color Touch, giving the surface a uniform black colour with good resistance to scratching and rubbing.
- Bronze – produced through a metal casting process based on a highly accurate 3D-printed master model, giving the replica an elegant and substantial metal finish.
- Gold Plated Brass – cast from a precise 3D-printed master model and finished with gold plating for a refined and decorative appearance.
- White Rhodium Plated Brass – cast from a precise 3D-printed master model and finished with white rhodium plating for a bright, elegant metallic surface.More about the materials: https://www.sculpteo.com/en/materials/
