Lion Attacking a Horse — 3D-Printed Replica
This replica reproduces Lion Attacking a Horse, a Hellenistic marble sculpture dated to approximately 325–300 BCE, now displayed in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. The composition depicts a lion bringing down a horse, its jaws and claws gripping the animal as it twists away.
Documented on the Capitoline since around 1300, the original served as a symbol of civic authority and justice in medieval Rome. Its present appearance combines ancient marble with additions made by the sculptor Ruggero Bascapè in 1594.
The replica is available in five materials. Nylon versions are produced by 3D printing and finished after printing. Metal versions are produced through lost-wax casting using a 3D-printed wax master. A plaster mould is formed around the master, and the wax is removed and replaced with molten metal.
- White nylon: White nylon with a polished finish that makes the surface smoother to the touch.
- Black nylon: Black nylon treated with a Color Touch finish, providing a uniform colour and increased resistance to scratching and rubbing.
- Bronze: Cast bronze, produced using the lost-wax process described above.
- Gold plated brass: Cast brass finished with gold plating.
- White rhodium plated brass: Cast brass finished with white rhodium plating.
