This 3D-printed Museum Replica reproduces a Hellenistic terracotta statuette of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, found at ancient Callatis on the western Black Sea coast. The figure is shown as a winged nude youth holding a dove, a combination that gives the original an unusually refined and distinctive character within the wider tradition of Hellenistic terracottas. The replica preserves the elegant silhouette and compact presence of the museum object while making it available in a range of contemporary production materials.
The original statuette belongs to the 4th–3rd centuries BCE and is today preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Callatis. It reflects the artistic world of ancient Callatis, a Greek city closely connected to the wider Hellenistic Mediterranean. Although often described as a Tanagra-type figurine, the object should be understood more broadly as part of a coroplastic tradition that extended well beyond Tanagra itself and included local production in Callatis. Its winged form identifies the figure as Nike, yet the youthful body and dove make this example more unusual than the standard image of the goddess, giving it a character that is at once graceful, restrained, and memorable.
